H1 2024: Veikkaus revenue falls ahead of licensed market launch
The operator’s total sales revenue, including income generated by other business activities besides its B2C operations, came to €483.8m, down 6.8%.
The drop in revenue came about due to a combination of factors, Veikkaus said, including increased customer verification requirements for the purchase of scratchcards and lottery tickets.
Those changes contributed to a 21% reduction in the revenue from ticket-based games and a 44% reduction in scratchcard sales, Veikkaus said.
Another exacerbating factor was a broad reduction in customers’ purchasing power amid the high-inflation environment of the first half of the year.
In spite of a lower average spend per customer, however, Veikaus still saw an improvement in the number of customers using its products.
As at the end of June, Veikkaus had 2.535 million registered customers, up by around 15,000 compared to the prior half-year.
Meanwhile, another positive development highlighted by the operator was that the proportion of GGR coming from online channels increased by 6.6 percentage points to 60.5%.
